St Patricks Day Horror Movies - Holiday Horror Movies Guide

Alright all of you green beer swilling, kiss me I'm Irish, shillelagh toting freaks... it is the time of year when everyone is Irish and most of us drink until we turn green and see Leprechauns. What better way to celebrate this holiday than with a three-pronged Shamrock of drinking, feasting and watching horror movies. There really aren't many St. Patty's day horror flicks out there other than the Leprechaun movies... but with 6 pints of Guiness all up in ya... they will do. To me it looks like a leprechaun to me, all you got to do is look up in the tree. Who all seen the leprechaun say yeaaaa! Drink it up and watch these flicks!

St. Patrick's Day Horror Movies Leprechaun (1993)
A father and daughter's move to a new home in the suburbs is anything but lucky when they discover that a murderous 600-year-old leprechaun is living in their basement, laying waste to all who interfere with the search for his pot of gold. Jennifer Aniston, Ken Olandt and Warwick Davis star in this cheeky horror thriller from writer-director Mark Jones that spawned a series of increasingly outrageous sequels.

St. Patrick's Day Horror Movies Leprechaun 2 (1994)
Nearly 1,000 years ago, a malevolent leprechaun (Warwick Davis) left a bloody trail in his wake when he ripped through the countryside in search of his stolen pot of gold. Now, he's back in the big city, using his deadly charms to find -- and marry -- the girl of his nightmares (Shevonne Durkin). The fact that she's in love with another man (Charlie Heath) isn't bad luck -- it only helps drive the imp's passion over the edge.

St. Patrick's Day Horror Movies Leprechaun 3 (1995)
A Las Vegas pawnbroker comes into possession of what he assumes to be a lucky leprechaun statue -- that is, until he removes the medallion hanging around its neck, bringing the murderous dwarf (Warwick Davis) to life. Obsessed with finding his pot of gold, the leprechaun begins his reign of terror, quickly doing away with the shop owner and moving on to Scott (John Gatins), the unfortunate college student who purchased the medallion.

St. Patrick's Day Horror Movies Leprechaun 4: In Space (1997)
In this installment of the "Leprechaun" series, our hero (Warwick Davis) travels into space and kidnaps an alien princess (Rebekah Carlton) to marry so that he can share her royal title. But before he can whisk the beautiful princess away, a platoon of intergalactic soldiers swoop in to rescue her. In a fit of rage, the leprechaun sets out to get gory revenge and reclaim the princess as his own.

St. Patrick's Day Horror Movies Leprechaun 5: Leprechaun In The Hood (2000)
The bloodthirsty Leprechaun (Warwick Davis) is back -- and this time he's killin' in the 'hood. When a group of wanna-be rappers gets jilted by pimp Mack Daddy (Ice-T), the young victims exact their revenge by breaking into Daddy's place and stealing his stuff. But when they remove a strange gold medallion from the neck of an even stranger little statue, they inadvertently awaken the Leprechaun. Coolio co-stars in this gory horror flick.

St. Patrick's Day Horror Movies Leprechaun 6: Back 2 Tha Hood (2003)
A group of hapless city kids (are there any other kind in a movie like this?) "luck" onto a treasure chest full of gold coins. Faster than you can pour a bowl of Lucky Charms, that sawed-off runt of a leprechaun appears -- again! -- to reclaim the loot. But before he can do that, some of the urban posse are gonna go down! Stars Warwick Davis, Tangi Miller and Sticky Fingaz.

Here are a few other horror movies you might enjoy on St. Patrick's Day. While they do not necessarily have a St. Patrick's Day theme, they are worth a viewing. For instance, there is a St. Patty's Day Parade in Maniac Cop and these others are just fun to watch while drunk. Notice I resisted the urge to say "they got me lucky charms". Drink up and enjoy!
Re-Animator (1985)
Based on a story by H.P. Lovecraft, this campy send-up that spawned a similarly outlandish sequel follows an egotistical medical student named Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs), who develops a serum that miraculously revives the dead. Together with his obdurate roommate, Dan (Bruce Abbott), and his girlfriend, Megan (Barbara Crampton), West reanimates a corpse -- but he doesn't factor in certain complications

Bad Taste (1987)
When an army of aliens invades Earth intending to sell humans as intergalactic hamburger meat, the New Zealand government calls in an elite team of psychotic assassins. But are these boys brutal enough to tackle the vilest villains in the universe? From director Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings), it's the ultimate battle of flying guts, splattering brains, exploding sheep and guzzling vomit, and is a favorite for horror comedy fans.

Maniac Cop (1988)
Larry Cohen writes and William Lustig directs this chiller about a psycho in a police uniform who's terrorizing New York City with a series of random slayings. Lt. McCrae (Tom Atkins) believes a real cop is behind the spree and fingers young Officer Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell). When McCrae becomes the killer's next victim, Forrest and an undercover vice cop (Laurene Landon) strike out on their own to solve the case and clear Forrest's name.

Dead Alive (1992)
Although it's easy to admire the maniacal glee of director Peter Jackson's bloodfest, Dead Alive is nonetheless intense and profoundly disturbing. When a Sumatran rat-monkey bites Lionel Cosgrove's mother, she's transformed into a zombie. She begins killing (and transforming) the entire town while Lionel races to keep things under control. Events culminate at a house party that turns into a blood-drenched zombie buffet.

Army of Darkness (1992)
Bound in human flesh and inked in blood, the ancient Necronomicon, or "Book of the Dead," transports department store clerk Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his 1973 Oldsmobile into England's Dark Ages. There, he faces legions of undead beasts in a battle for his life. One of the most memorable early works from director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man), this cult favorite is the third in a trilogy of hilarious sci-fi horror epics.

Terror Firmer (1999)
The critically acclaimed story of a low-budget film crew and their attempts to "make some art." In addition to the typical trials and travails, the crew find themselves set upon by a sexually conflicted, bomb-bearing serial killer (Debbie Rochon). This horror movie send-up features appearances by director Lloyd Kaufman, Ron Jeremy, "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and Lemmy of the band Motorhead.

The Convent (2000)
In 1959, young Christine (Oakley Stevenson) cooly walks into the St. Francis Boarding School for Girls with a shotgun, a can of gasoline and a cigarette. Within minutes she walks out -- the chapel engulfed in flames with no survivors. Forty years later, a group of students breaks into the cursed basilica, unaware of the horror that awaits them in the convent. Is Christine (Adrienne Barbeau) still lurking?
