- Be glad you're afraid. It means you're still alive.
- Vermeer: What do you think she meant when she said a huge black monster with giant claws? Eric Visser: I don't know, but I hope your mother-in-law has an alibi. Vermeer: UGH!
Eric Visser: What were they doing? Vermeer: Apparently collecting water samples. Eric Visser: They were the ones who ended up being sampled.
- The whole speedboat chase is a reference to the speedboat chase in Puppet on a Chain (1971) which is also set in Amsterdam. Even the colors of the boats are the same.
During the boat chase they pass a ship with a brass band. The conductor of this band is played by Bert Haanstra, the award winning director of several films. One of his most famous is Fanfare, in which boats with bands play an important role.
During the filming of the speedboat chase, the boat with actor Huub Stapel crashed into a wall, what resulted in several injuries and took him out of shooting for three weeks.
While most of the speedboat chase was shot in Amsterdam, some scenes were shot in the nearby city of Utrecht. These involve the part where both boats jump onto the quay and plow through the chairs and tables of a terrace. Such low-lying quays can not be found in Amsterdam, only in Utrecht.
