"Bloody 27" is the nickname for Highway 27 near the Everglades in Florida. It is infamous for many fatal accidents caused by its old sections of narrow 2 lane highway.
Director Michael Thomas Dunn used one of his personal cars for the "hero car" in the film. It is a B5 Blue 1973 Plymouth Duster.
Lauren Brown was the first actress cast in the movie. Her screen test was so good, that Doug's girlfriend (that was added in a later revision of the script) was named "Lauren" as an homage.
The Producers had difficulty getting the proper permission to film a scene at a gas station. As a result, Bloody 27 was filmed at the FullSail Film School's backlot (located in Winter Park, Florida) - which has a gas station set.
Bloody 27 was the first feature film to unite alumni from University of Central Florida and FullSail Film Schools. It was a grass roots independent film that was brought together several local independent film makers including Michael Thomas Dunn and Todd Thompson (who portrays Jacobs in the film).
