- Mr Blount: A good day's work, Bolton! You're getting faster all the time. Beats me how you do it! Dr. Bolton: [Bitterly] No matter how fast I still can't save them! Mr Blount: Yes, most distresing, but, alas, inevitably you can't have operations without screams. Pain and the knife, they're inseparable! Dr. Bolton: I beg to differ. Someday surgery must and will be made painless.
Hospital chairman: Mr. Bolton, the committee have decided against holding ant further demonstrations Dr. Bolton: Well, Charles, you've lost faith with me too? Hospital chairman: The decision's for your own good. Dr. Bolton: You can't stop me. Operations without pain are possible, and I'll not rest until I've proved it to you!
Resurrection Joe: Some day you'll wiggle that bottom of yours too often.
Dr. Bolton: [In the Seven Dials] This place must breed a hundres fevers!
- Although the film was not released until 1962, it was actually shot in 1958.
The cast presented Boris Karloff with a signed broom when the production wrapped.
The working title was "Doctor of the Seven Dial", but MGM objected . They thought that foreign audiences would not be familiar with that area of London.
The censors successfully lobbied to have three scenes omitted: (1) The close-up of the leg amputation. (2) Lee's stabbing the night watchman in the back. (3) Karloff's throwing acid in Lee's face.
