Fear(s) Of The Dark and Sauna On DVD October 27

Two highly anticipated thrillers FEAR(S) OF THE DARK and SAUNA come to DVD October 27th. FEAR(S) OF THE DARK, an anthology of dark, unsettling and absolutely frightening animated shorts, and SAUNA, a dark and disturbing shocker of sin and the struggle for redemption come to DVD October 27.

FEAR(S) OF THE DARK
Some of the World's leading graphic artists draw you in with tales designed to disturb your sleep.

FEAR(S) OF THE DARK, the much-praised feature, a hit in theaters following global success at film festivals, arrives on DVD on October 27, 2009, from IFC Films, with an SRP of $19.98.

FEAR(S) OF THE DARK brings together some of the world's leading graphic artists and cartoonists – Blutch (Christian Hincker), Charles Burns, Marie Caillou, Richard McGuire, Pierre di Sciullo and Lorenzo Mattotti – who breathe life into their nightmares, utilizing stark light and the pitch black of shadows. Their intertwined stories make up an unprecedented film where phobias, disgust and nightmares come to life and reveal Fear at its most naked and intense. Creepy, kinky, sometimes funny and always scary, these films – ranging from the story of a girl forced to relive her nightmarish past, to a haunted house tale in which the striking of a match is enough to make you jump out of your seat - will challenge any home viewer to watch alone in the dark.

No less an authority on creepiness than Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro praised FEAR(S) OF THE DARK for its "rusty alleyways and vaporous ghosts painted by the masters of dread." The film was an Official Selection at the Sundance, Rome, Los Angeles and Rotterdam festivals, among others, and enjoyed a successful theatrical run last fall, including an engagement at the IFC Center in New York.

SAUNA
A long and brutal war has ended but the horror has only just begun.

The bleak landscape of 16th-century Finland is the stunning setting for SAUNA, the mesmerizing film which receives its U.S. premiere on DVD from IFC Films and MPI Media Group on October 27, 2009, with an SRP of $19.98.

Russia and Sweden fought 10 wars over a 300-year period beginning in the late 15th century. One of them, a 25-year struggle that ended in 1595 and wreaked devastation on neighboring Finland, is the setting for SAUNA. The brutal war has just ended and brothers Erik and Knut, one of them a hardened veteran of the conflict, roam the swampy terrain, part of a detachment commissioned to map the new border between Finland and Russia.

During their lonely, difficult trek through the wilderness, the brothers (Ville Virtanen and Tommi Eronen) come upon a young girl and commit a terrible sin, leaving her to die an agonizing death. But as the brothers continue on their mission, they become haunted by their actions and seek relief in a mysterious little village, where an ominous sauna offers them the faint hope that they can simply wash away their sins.
