Pink Eiga Poised To Sweep U.S. With Newest Foreign Cult Movie Sensation. Japanese "Pink Films" To Screen At The Boobs And Blood International Film Festival At The New Beverly Cinema, September 24th-26th.
A quirky creation of the Japanese film industry and at one point its most popular genre, these strange and experimental sex films promise to draw new audiences into their weird erotic worlds.
This September, the world famous New Beverly Cinema will host the Boobs and Blood International Film Festival. Among the honored entrants will be four pink films presented by Pink Eiga, the distributor making these mini-features available in the United States.
It has long been said that necessity is the mother of invention. This is wildly evident in the evolution of the pink film. From its earliest days in the beginning of the 1960's the filmmakers were required to adhere to the censorship imposed on these films in Japan. This presented an artistic challenge to present explicit sexuality without violating these standards. The result was a distinct visual style which has become a hallmark of the pink film.
Directors found that pink films were great opportunities to experiment with style and subject, since the only two requirements of a pink film are that it be one hour long and show a certain number of sex scenes. With this freedom came wild experimentation and outrageous subject matter, which is why you'll be hard-pressed to find a title of a pink film that doesn't sound something like "Inflatable Sex Doll of The Wastelands" or "A Lonely Cow Weeps at Midnight." Boobs and Blood will present the films "The Japanese Wife Next Door," "The Japanese Wife Next Door 2," "S&M Hunter," and the pink vampire film "Twilight Dinner."
Pink films were originally produced as low-budget alternatives to mainstream Japanese cinema, but remarkably rose to be at one point the country's most popular movie genre, leaving a rich legacy and creating a thriving industry. Pink Eiga currently has 300 titles and will release 15 new titles every year, making the pink film one of the most enduring movie genres in the world.
The pink film genre has given rise to its own superstars. Yutaka Ikegima, the director of "The Japanese Wife Next Door" films, appeared as an actor in over 500 pink films between 1981 and 1982 before turning to directing in 1988. Since then he has directed over 100 of them, earning the title of "Mr. Pink."
The curvy Reiko Yamaguchi is one of the biggest sex stars in pink films. She got her start in 2000 in Japanese adult film industry, later moving to pink films, appearing in such titles as "Semen Demon" as well as the popular "The Japanese Wife Next Door" films.
Pink Eiga is proud to present these four films to U.S. audiences at Boobs and Blood. And Sunday promises to be extra special: "Twilight Dinner" will screen as part of the festival's Lesbian Vampire Day, and its director Yutaka Ikegima - Mr. Pink himself - will be present at this first-ever screening of the award-winning film outside of Japan.
In "The Japanese Wife Next Door," corporate worker Takashi meets Ryoko and Sakura. He marries Sakura. Not long after she moves in with Takashi's family, Sakura reveals herself to be a raging nymphomaniac, to the dirty delight of everyone but her husband.
In "The Japanese Wife Next Door 2," a clever twist makes this a perfect example of pink film experimentation-- Takashi is back in time meeting Ryoko and Sakura for the first time. This time he marries Ryoko, the boss's daughter. If the first film's all-in-the-family gang bangs didn't thrill you enough, try bondage, insanity, murder, enemas, and life insurance.
Then there is "S&M Hunter." He is a super-anti-hero if there ever was one. His superpower: extreme bondage abilities. He and his talents are called upon to defeat The Bombers, an all-girl gang who has kidnapped a man and made him their sex slave.
