A Wild Young Woman Finds There Are Always Consequences In A Devastating Shocker About Disconnected Lives Joined In Crisis. Three Dissimilar Americans Are Brought Together by Cruel Fate in British Director Simon Rumley's Gripping and Moving Follow-up to His Unforgettable 'The Living and the Dead.' It Arrives on DVD on May 17, 2011
An utterly unique combination of unbearable suspense, brutal violence and poignant tragedy, RED, WHITE & BLUE is an unrelenting modern masterpiece about the way we live now. British director Simon Rumley's acclaimed and award-winning new film, a hit at SXSW and other festivals worldwide and released theatrically by IFC Films, hits DVD from IFC Midnight via MPI Media Group on May 17, 2011. The disc has an SRP of $24.98.
Powerful, visceral and oddly touching, RED, WHITE & BLUE is also very sophisticated storytelling, shifting among three protagonists who function as both killer and prey. Erica (Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Amanda Fuller) is a tough, troubled nymphomaniac who carries emotional wounds as she wanders from bar to bar in Austin, Texas. Erica prefers to keep things on a strictly sexual basis ("I don't do friends," she says). Sleeping with a series of anonymous men forms the core of her life, until she meets the mysterious and possibly dangerous Nate (Noah Taylor, The Proposition, Almost Famous), an Iraq War veteran who served as an Army interrogator. He and Eric form a tentative (and platonic) bond as they dare to bare their troubled souls to each other.
But in a shocking twist, one of Erica's past one-night stands, wannabe rock star Franki (Marc Senter, Cabin Fever 2), shows up with devastating news that will have profound consequences on everyone's lives and lead to a shocking climax. Hard-edged and uncompromising, the film has been compared to the works of such disparate filmmakers as Larry Clark, Sam Peckinpah, Wes Craven and Alfred Hitchcock.
With RED, WHITE & BLUE, director Simon Rumley crafts a formidable "trip through the darkest corners of the American psyche," said Anton Bitel of Little White Lies. Indiewire's Howard Feinstein wrote, "RED WHITE & BLUE continues to haunt me with its staggering combo of psychological insight and visceral brutality." The New York Times' Jeannette Catsoulis said Rumley "is a bonafide storyteller with more tools in his arsenal than shock and awe."
"Amanda Fuller's performance is fearless, the most kinetic, raw and ferocious turn by an actress since Charlotte Gainsbourg in Lars von Trier's Antichrist," raved Chris Alexander of Fangoria. And Ain't It Cool News called it "a brilliant film: A dark, brooding, macabre piece of fiction that will leave you feeling a lot like you did the first time you watched Requiem for a Dream."
Among its many awards, RED, WHITE & BLUE was named Best Film at both the Lund International Fantastic Film Festival in Sweden and the Boston Underground Film Festival, and Noah Taylor was named Best Actor at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival.
