"The Sky Has Fallen" won Best Horror Feature at the 2009 Freak Show Horror Film Festival, and it won Best Feature at the 2009 International Indie Gathering Film Festival. Now, we're trying to raise money so we can really get it out there and promote it (one of the hardest parts of being an indie). In exchange, people can get their name in the credits as an Associate Producer or Co-Producer (with an IMDb page), they can get a signed DVD, poster, t-shirt, or a 2-hour making-of documentary. They can even grab a cameo or a trip to Shanghai, China. It's an all-or-nothing campaign though so we've got to raise all of our goal by the deadline.

Our movie got accepted into the 2010 Yellow Fever Independent Film Festival in Northern Ireland! Would you like to see your name on the big screen all around the world? We're submitting to more festivals now! Don't miss out!
Tired of remakes? Want to see something original? The Sky Has Fallen is an independent feature film written, directed, and edited by Doug Roos. Starring Carey MacLaren and Laurel Kemper, it won Best Horror Feature at the 2009 Indie Gathering International Film Festival, and it won Best Feature at the 2009 Freak Show Horror Film Festival. Now is your chance to be part of this award-winning indie horror movie.
I need your help to get this incredible, one-of-a-kind film out into the world. It's the final, crucial step in a long journey. Studios spend millions of dollars on promotion, because the simple fast is if nobody knows about a movie, it can't be successful. So many people have poured their hearts into this film and stayed up night after night to make it a reality that I'm determined to get our movie out there.
Post-apocalyptic films are always burdened with exposition. Many start with scrolling text for this very reason. Luckily, we found a creative way to quickly and easily set up our world without resorting to that. By starting with radio broadcasts playing over scenes of the plague spreading and mysterious black figures appearing, we're able to pull the audience into our story. We also wanted to avoid the cliche of these films always looking gray and ugly. Since nukes weren't a part of our apocalypse, it made sense for our movie to break that convention, setting it apart from so many others in this sub-genre. But making this ambitious film still proved to be quite a challenge. It required a lot of complex makeup, sword work, squib effects, night shooting, etc. There were days we were all about ready to collapse, but we kept at it. You can't let go of your dreams no matter what, and we made something we can all be proud of. My composer, James Sizemore, and I spent 6 months coming up with the movie's music. He's now the technical director for Academy-Award winner Howard Shore. We recorded the orchestral score live in New York City with 14 extremely talented musicians, each of whom we were so lucky to have (thanks guys).
I've been working on this film for over 5 years. I grew up on 80s films like The Terminator, RoboCop, Aliens, etc. They were the template for the kind of movie I wanted to make. Something with smart writing, great characters, real emotion and drama, breathtaking imagination, astonishing FX, good pacing, etc. I always thought if you're going to make a movie, you've got to give it everything you've got, which is why this is such a personal project to me. I spent a year writing and rewriting the script. I kept pushing myself to make it better and better. What if this was the only movie I got to make? See? No pressure at all :) Of course, I'll never stop making movies, but I knew I had to make my first feature count. I had to make something amazing and unique that would blow people away.
Unfortunately, Hollywood has turned this genre into an endless string of remakes and sequels. Obviously, they can be good (The Fly and The Thing are some of my favorite films, same for Aliens, one of the best sequels of all time), but it's insane just how many of these kinds of movies studios have been cranking out lately. There were 5 remakes in 2009 and 2006! 6 in 2008! And those are just horror films. Every year more and more are released. This is your chance to support something different. Something with heart made by people who don't just want to cash in on a famous title.
Since the movie will only be updated and added to, you're guaranteed to get your rewards (when we meet our goal, of course). No worrying about the project not being completed. And you'll clearly get to see the results of your donations. We'll be taking photos at conventions and keeping you in the loop at all times with exclusive updates (and videos!).
