Seattle's True Independent Film Festival (STIFF), held June 4th through the 13th, will show the Northwest premiere of local independent horror film, "Eyes in the Dark." Director Bjorn Anderson will be in attendance at the screening on Saturday, June 5th, 7:45pm at the Jewelbox Theater at the Rendezvous in downtown Seattle.
The 78-minute movie was filmed over several months in the forests of the Cascade Mountains. The film's plot features an unknown force hunting down unsuspecting travelers near Snoqualmie Pass.
"I've always found that our own imaginations can come up with something far creepier than anything we can put up on screen," said Anderson. "So I limited the exposure of the creature to the audience. You never really see what is out there, and when we don't know what we are facing, our natural reaction is fear."
The cast and crew were made up entirely of local talent found in the Seattle area.
Anderson went to Mercer Island High School with two of the film's producers (Joseph Cole and Marco Scaringi) and to college with a third (Mike Ash). The fourth producer, Robyn Scaringi, also grew up in Seattle.
Filming the feature length film was not without its challenges.
"Cramming the entire shooting schedule into five weekends was a tough challenge," said Marco Scaringi. "There were many twelve to sixteen hour days, and I had times when I thought we weren't gonna be able to pull it off in time."
"The really tough part was shooting the cave scenes in October," said Cole. "It was unnaturally cold in those caves, but the cast and crew were amazing. Everyone pulled together and we got it done."
Despite the challenges of filmmaking, Anderson can't help but take pride in his work and in the Seattle art community.
"I'm very excited to show what our local talent in Washington can do," added Anderson. "I think the artistic capabilities of people around here often go unnoticed. I'm grateful to STIFF for creating an opportunity for so many great local and underground films to be shown here in Seattle."
"Eyes in the Dark" will be shown at Seattle's True Independent Film Festival Saturday, June 5th at 7:45pm. The screening will be at the Rendezvous Jewelbox Theater in Seattle on 2nd & Bell. The Rendezvous is a 21 and older venue. Tickets are available at the door or from STIFF's website, www.trueindependent.org. The next showing of "Eyes in the Dark" will be at the Fright Night Film Fest in Louisville, KY.
Bjorn Anderson is the owner of Emerald City Pictures, a video production company based in the Seattle area. "Eyes in the Dark" is Anderson's second feature film. His first feature, "Warrior's End," premiered at STIFF in 2009. For more information about the movie, "Eyes in the Dark," visit www.eyesthemovie.com.
