As ingenious as it is unbearably suspenseful, the award-winning directorial debut of successful television writers Luis Piedrahita and Rodrigo Sopena makes its debut on DVD September 29, 2009 from IFC. Four brilliant mathematicians confront a problem they can't solve – and it's a matter of life and death – in FERMAT'S ROOM, a heart-stopping thriller that has been hailed at more than two dozen film festivals around the world. The Spanish film, a stunning directorial debut, arrives on DVD from IFC Films via MPI Media Group on September 29, 2009. The disc, which includes the original theatrical trailer, has an SRP of $19.98.
It's a setup worthy of Agatha Christie when four famed mathematicians, all strangers to one another, are invited to the remote home of a mysterious man known only as Fermat. They don't know why they've been invited, and quickly wish they hadn't come. Once at Fermat's house, they are locked in a room and given a series of logic puzzles that must each be solved within one minute. For each late answer, hydraulic presses will push the walls closer together. Beset by fear, desperation and paranoia, the quartet must race against the clock to solve the problems before they are crushed to death, while also trying to figure out the connections between themselves that have brought them together and may be their only hope for survival.
FERMAT'S ROOM stars veteran international star Federico Luppi (Guillermo del Toro's "Cronos" and "Pan's Labyrinth") as the diabolical Fermat and, as the trapped mathematicians, Lluís Homar (Pedro Almodóvar's "Bad Education"), Elena Ballesteros, Alejo Sauras and Santi Millan.
FERMAT'S ROOM won the Audience Award at the 2007 Málaga Fantastic Film Festival in Spain as well as two awards at the Fantasporto festival in Portugal. It was an official selection at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival in New York, was the opening night selection at the Tanger Spanish Film Festival in Morocco. It has also been shown at more than two dozen other festivals, including Sitges in Spain, Cambridge, Portland, Glasgow, Filmfest DC and Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic.
