Stephen King Film Shot In Wexford

WEXFORD ACTOR Michael Parle has been cast as a villain so many times he's beginning to ask himself some questions. The Ramsgrange man was in Wexford recently starring in an adaptation of Stephen King's short story, The Boogeyman.

Wexford actress Natasha O'Brien is also starring in the production by Gerard Lough, while Heather Carthy looked after the make-up for the Wexford shots. Lough secured the rights for the story for $1 and both he and the cast are thrilled that King will watch the 30-minute production.

Lough told The Echo: "I have a number of very talented people working with me on this." Setting out with a budget of €1,600, Lough shot the film in Donegal and in Carne and Wexford Town.

Parle, (who is also a well-known musician), said he was thrilled to be working in his native county. He has had a prolific acting career, starring in the upcoming Ivan Kavanagh film, Tin Can Man.

"This is great fun," he said. During the shoot Parle had to be covered in prosthetics and spent hours in make-up to play the role of a psychiatrist who turns into a monster. "I am always killing somebody somewhere."

In The Boogeyman we meet a dysfunctional family at siege by forces which may or may not exist. Lough said he loved shooting in Wexford.

"We have castles, local talent and the seaside here."

About The Film

Based on the short story by Stephen King, THE BOOGEYMAN is an ambitious short film directed by Irish film-maker Gerard Lough and starring Simon Fogarty and Michael Parle.

When Andrew Billings (Fogarty) goes to see a pstchriast to explain how an evil creature that lives in his closet is responsible for the deaths of his three children he is met with sceptism. But as the story progresses, both Dr Harper (Parle) and the audience will start to consider the possibility that this "boogeyman" is real after all.

The film has intricate visual effects that are CGI as well as in camera. It also feature excellent make up effects by one of the best artistsin Ireland - Julie Ann Ryan. This combined with a faithfull adaption of King's much loved sourse material, strong performance, stunning visuals and a creepy electronic score will make for a very memorale 330 minute movie which will be shown at film festival all over the world.
