With audiences lining up to see the recently released reboot of "The Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise, horror fans are dying to know what's going on with the original Freddy Krueger, horror icon Robert Englund!
Englund released his autobiography in October of 2009, titled "Hollywood Monster: A Walk Down Elm Street With the Man of Your Dreams." Also in 2009, he traveled to Chicago to play a featured role in the independent horror/comedy "The Mole Man of Belmont Avenue."
"Mole Man" was written and directed by Mike Bradecich and John LaFlamboy of Chicago's Big Tree Productions, in association with Zombie Army Productions and Resolution Digital Studios. It features a cast of the finest comedic talent in Chicago, culled largely from the famed Second City theater. Sketch and improv comedy legends like Tim Kazurinsky (Police Academy), David Pasquesi (Angels & Demons), T.J. Jagadowski (The Ice Harvest), Susan Messing, and others all deliver hilarious performances in the movie.
Bradecich and LaFlamboy also star in the movie as the incompetent Mugg brothers, who have recently inherited an apartment building that may have a pet-eating monster living in the basement. LaFlamboy, besides being a prominent actor in the Chicago theater and independent film scenes, also designs and runs several of the largest haunted houses in the midwest as the head of Zombie Army Productions. Bradecich will be familiar to audiences as Postman Al in the ubiquitous USPS Flat Rate Box "If it fits, it ships" commercials, among others.
"Mole Man" was shot in July of 2009 and is currently in post-production, with plans to seek distribution and submit to festivals later in 2010. It was shot on HD video tape by Cinematographer Nance Jordan with a Sony F900 camera provided by producing partner Resolution Digital Studios, also a Chicago-based company. Keep an eye on the movie's official website, molemanmovie.com, for updates on post production and future screenings.
