The Zombie Hero Now Available On DVD

Mike, on his way to a romantic dinner with his girlfriend, is run over and killed by a crazed scientist. The malevolent Dr. Faust steals Mike's body from the bloody crime scene and brings it back to his laboratory for experimentation. In an attempt to bring his dead and frozen wife back to life, Dr. Faust perfects the process of resurrection on Mike- who wakes as a zombie and quickly escapes the lab.

Dr Faust employs various methods to hunt Mike down, as Mike encounters a pair of twisted cannibals and discovers his own terrifying thirst for blood and flesh. Help comes to Mike in the form of a mysterious bum, who quickly becomes Mike's mentor, and steers him in the direction of fighting crime. While Mike makes a name for himself as a vigilante hero, Dr. Faust finally catches up with him, but is quickly overwhelmed by Mike's new powers. Dr. Faust retreats to his lab, where he repairs his wounds in a startling transformation, and unleashes his most feared henchman, Norbert. As Mike battles Norbert, Dr. Faust is able to infiltrate Mike's hideout, kill the bum who aided Mike, and kidnap Mike's girlfriend to hold hostage. Mike, who is soundly beaten by Norbert, returns to his hideout to discover his dying mentor, and all hope seems lost. Mike then has a vision of the bum's ghost, and formulates a plan to defeat both Norbert and Dr. Faust, and rescue his girlfriend from the clutches of evil.

THE ZOMBIE HERO is being distributed through More Brains Media - a company started by Super Tromette Jen Tonon.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE PRODUCTION

Nicholas A. Jackson has been an artist since birth. In his high school years, Nicholas began writing a comic book which sparked an interest in storytelling. Eventually, Nicholas began to regard moviemaking as the ultimate art form, combining the elements he loves of writing, drawing, sculpting, painting, photography and music with the people-skills he learned working in the customer service industry.

After making the decision to write, produce, and direct a feature length narrative, Nicholas found his greatest support in the form of his ailing mother, Alicia, stricken with Muscular Dystrophy. Nicholas began writing a screenplay which went through almost twenty revisions over the course of a year. The story was finalized, and reflected Nicholas' love of comic book style science fiction and fantasy. The production was to be entirely financed out-of-pocket by its creator, and depended heavily on the idea that everyone involved would be working for free.

Shooting was scheduled to begin in the fall of '05, with Nicholas now slated as the lead actor, along with his best friend & roommate Gavin Horner. That October, tragedy struck when Nicholas' mother finally succumbed to her long struggle with Muscular Dystrophy, and passed on from this world. Through this ordeal, Nicholas gained a resolve, determination, and persistence that would not allow him to stop his moviemaking efforts, if not for himself, then for his mother who was the first to believe in him. Shooting went on as scheduled that October.

Nicholas and Gavin then found a third roommate, Jason Spilman, who became just as excited about the movie and wanted to help any way he could. Nicholas, Gavin and Jason worked closely together during the early stages of production. This wouldn't last long however, as Nicholas and Gavin found themselves at odds over creative differences, and Gavin left the production to pursue his own career.

Seeking more help, Nicholas responded to an ad on the internet, and met the like-minded Kyle Phillips. Kyle was from a small town in Wisconsin, and moved to Madison to attend Madison Media Institute for their two-year video program. Although Kyle had his own ideas for a movie at the time, he set that aside and dove right into the project that would become The Zombie Hero.

Gavin, who had originally played the on-screen villain Dr. Logan Faust, was replaced by cameraman-turned-actor Carl Lawrenz. All of the scenes starring Gavin were re-shot and edited to include Carl instead, who delivers one of the best performances in the movie. Nicholas and Kyle worked together as a great directing team and acting duo, with Carl and Jason doubling as actors and crew members. At this point, a great deal of production was accomplished.

In the mean time, Nicholas had begun dating Lauren Wilz, who happened to have experience in live theater and was interested in helping the production. Lauren proved invaluable as she took the lead female role as an actor (imitating life as she played Nicholas' on-screen girlfriend), and became a lead makeup artist, on-set photographer and back up crew member. She also acted as Nicholas' personal assistant throughout post-production and collaborates on projects with Nicholas to this day.

Before shooting was completed, Jason was forced to move out of state and left the production, but kept in-touch and up to date with the progress that was being made. Principle photography was completed in October of '07, with Nicholas, Kyle, Carl and Lauren sticking with it to the end.

Nicholas began the editing process with close to twenty hours of raw footage. Over the next year he would edit, shoot pick-ups, add the sound effects and synchronize the music, some of which he composed himself. The rest of the music came from three amazingly talented sources: Milwaukee's ASH X the God of Anarchy, Jen Tonon, and Madison's own The Viscous Circle (including Madison Area Music Award winning vocalist Shawn Brown), who is responsible for the awesome Zombie Hero Theme Song that can be heard over the credits of the movie and during the DVD's opening menu.

Finally, in October of '08, The Zombie Hero was completed - four years since the idea first occurred to Nicholas A. Jackson. In its final form, the movie is a showcase of the many talents of a few people, and is a “fun to watch live-action comic book.” Nicholas now plans to build upon the experience gained from this project, and bring what he has learned into his future filmmaking efforts.

FILMMAKER BIO

Nicholas A. Jackson (writer, producer, director, and actor) was born and raised in the south, and moved to Madison, WI in 2000. A visual artist all of his life, Nicholas sees movie-making as the ultimate art form. It gives him a chance to not only showcase his writing and videography skills, but also his ability to draw, paint and sculpt as evidenced by the handmade costumes, sets and props seen in The Zombie Hero. In 2004, at the age of nineteen, Nicholas founded Digital Mad Movies for the purpose of producing The Zombie Hero. He has since developed it into a small production house of his future film projects, based in Madison, WI.

Nicholas pursues his art in honor of his late mother, Alicia A. Jackson, who battled Muscular Dystrophy for many years.

He is currently an assistant manager of a grocery store deli by day, and continues his art by night with a multitude of projects currently in the works.
