This is a worthy followup to 300, told primarily through an Athenian warrior, Themistokles, and the widow of King Leonidas, Queen Gorgo (Lena Heady of GAME OF THRONES). It takes place before, during and after the events of the first movie. While the Spartans are heading off to confront the Persian ruler, Xerxes, other Greeks are becoming concerned. We're introduced to the people of Athens--and also to Artemisia (Eva Green of PENNY DREADFUL), the woman commander of Xerxe's navy. There's plenty of action, most of it on the sea, and more of a supernatural element, as we're shown how Xerxes becomes a giant. The most entertaining aspect is the chemistry between Themistokles and Artemisia. Recommended.
