In the near future humanity is nearly killed off by a virulent plague that is unleashed from the destruction of the Amazon rain forest. Although there's no cure a drug called Absolon is invented, which prevents the virus from killing its host. People must take their injection of Absolon every day or else they will die of the virus.Because everyone is so dependent upon this drug the pharmaceutical company that makes it runs the world's economy. When the scientist who invented the drug is found killed Christopher Lambert is assigned to investigate. A team of investigators, led by Lou Diamond Phillips, is also sent by the pharmacy company-pretty much to make sure no one looks too hard for a culprit. The scientist's assistant is set to blame for the killing. Lambert knows different and goes on the run after Diamond Phillips tries to kill him.He hooks up with a hot looking woman scientist, who knows something about what's going on, together they try to find out what the dead scientist was working on. It turns out to be a cure for the disease-and it's revealed that Lambert holds the antibodies for the cure to the virus (he is infused with it earlier in the movie in a nondescript way). So now he really has to stay alive in order to save humanity. There's a pretty good twist ending as well.
