The special effects are quite convincing his this Hallmark produced television movie. The various stories, though-about people pulling together in a time of crisis-are a bit mushy. There are the mayor and his police chief adversary who learn to share a common bond (Tom Skeritt and Charles Duning, both who were in ALIENs movies!), a lost Jennifer Garner (Alias) who falls in love with a Russian immigrant, and a mother who must find and rescue her son from a crumbling building. The movie made me want to watch those Irwin Allen disaster movies from the 70's, back when Hollywood actually had the guts to kill off principal characters. An ironic thing about the movie is that it shows all of New York City's older buildings collapsed and on fire but the World Trade Center towers are still standing (this was made two years before 9/11).
