This French sci-fi movie is a weird one. A man, dressed like a 1950's private eye journeys to this huge empty city called Alphaville in order to find a scientist who defected to there. The man also encounters the scientist's daughter, who he falls in love with. But along the way he encounters people who are sent to murder him-and he ends up killing them all. Alphaville is run by a computer and human emotions and desires are being erased-and it's ultimately his goal to put a stop to it.The odd thing is that there are no futuristic sets, no space-age costumes or any special effects. The entire movie takes place in present day (well, 1965) France and everything is conveyed through the dialogue. Everything may look normal but it's anything but. This movie really reminded me of THE MATRIX movies, though it also seems (at least visually) its polar opposite.
