I hope that with the summer of 2002's big budget Hollywood spider film that this straight to video release won't get lost in the shuffle. It's damn good and better than that 'other' movie. Some strange goings on are going down on a tropical island. A medical team in route to an expedition ends up crash landing there of course. They soon encounter the strange spider like alien monsters that now call this island home and the results ain't to pretty. The creatures look great without the bullshit CGI FX and this movie throws a fair amount of blood on the floor before it's over. A couple of busty hottys running through the jungle in t-tops help keep an eye on the screen too. Sure it feels like Predator, has some elements from Alien, and has no nudity, but it does pack in some action and nasty looking creatures. Arachnid takes a serious tone in its fight to get off Spider Island, that helped me enjoy this thing more than I should have. I'm a bit tired of happy, funny-assed movies where there's a joke in every damn scene. Luckily, this film got rid of the comedian for an FX artist.
