For those of you who don't know, ASHES TO ASHES is the sequel to the UK show LIFE ON MARS. A woman detective in present day, Alex Drake, finds herself in the same "reality" as that show's protagonist, though it's now the 1980's. When she asks where he is or what happened to him, the only answer she's given is that he died. In the previous season she was shot by DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister) and awakens from her coma three months later. Although she goes back to work, he's under suspicion for shooting her on purpose, though it was an accident. There are police cases she solves, but this is all on a back burner as to what's really going on. Although I had a pretty good idea how the series was going to end, one aspect of it surprised me in that it wasn't just about Alex-- a few other characters were "real" as well. It not only successfully ended this show, but the original LIFE ON MARS series as well.
