This recent incarnation of the Caped Crusader is an interesting character study of how Bruce Wayne ultimately transforms into The Batman.Christian Bale is as good, if not better, than Michael Keaton. Rather than Gotham City being this sprawling, fantastical city, as depicted in the four earlier movies, it more resembles a bloated version of New York City here. Even one of the primary villains, The Scarecrow, is made much more reality based. And Batman gets his share of cuts and bruises.I could do without the DAWSON'S CREEK girl, but it's truly inspired casting Michael Caine as Alfred. And Liam Neeson makes a much more threatening menace than Dr. Freeze or The Penguin.Hopefully this will be the start of another series, this one much more serious and darker, as it should be.
