This stand-alone movie takes place from the perspective of a member of the Pegasus crew named Kendra Shaw, from when Helen Cain commanded the ship to when it's under the command of Lee Adama. She is appointed as Lee's second-in-command, which causes some conflicts, particularly with Starbuck. Kendra also has a dark secret, which continues to haunt her after the death of Cain, a secret she may be unable to live with.
The movie clears up some things, such as why Cain is so relentless against the Cylons and why she has her crew torture the human looking ones. There are also some flashbacks of Adama from the first Cylon War, forty-years ago, when he stumbled upon a laboratory where the Cylons were experimenting with grafting human parts into their machinery, which sort of parallels the story in the novel THE CYLON'S SECRET. I thought the coolest thing is that we see the old style Cylon Centurians (as in the original series) as well as their older ships.
