Brimstone Productions is back with another werewolf offering, again offering three stories from different writers and directors...First off, there's BLOOD REUNION, directed by Bruce G. Hallenbeck. A Dean Koontz style horror writer returns to his hometown after a divorce to take a shot at the 'hometown gal' he still professes to love. But the hometown gal happens to have a very domineering grandma who won't let her out of sight...and then some murders happen...and the writer is advised not to leave town...There's good stuff in this segment, decent makeup effects and lead actor Edward Sparrow is quite convincing in his role.Segment # 2, directed by Kevin Lindenmuth and called OLD BLOOD, is a psychological take on the accumulated powers of relationships and lycanthropy. Co-written by Lindenmuth and Stephen Seward, this is an engrossing piece, featuring two lovers (Sasha Graham and Mia Borrelli) struggling to come to terms with each other and somehow live in harmony, despite that one of them is a lycanthrope and the other isn't...and is begging to be accepted into the hybrid circle. As they say, 'the grass is always greener on the other side' and 'things never work out the way you think they will'...Lindenmuth provides assured direction here and it's great to see Graham back in the indie scene again. Her performance is outstanding, as is Borrelli's.The final act is a fast-paced woods chase called MANBEAST, written and directed by Joe Bagnardi. Although I figured out the twist way before the ending, it was still fun to watch and the payoff made me grin. Great homage to PLANET OF THE APES here, werewolf style. Makeup effects on this one are in the grand tradition of 50's classics...a great tribute!BLOOD OF THE WEREWOLF is highly recommended. If Rod Serling would've had a modern take on lycanthropy,it surely would've been in this fine tradition!
