The second movie from the Tri-Toad guys (Brad Paulson, Tyler Burk, Aaron Burk), who have previously done THE VAN, is an extremely well-done, hilarious take on the Slasher genre and one of the best independent productions I've seen in past last year. In the opening scene a young bride freaks out on her wedding night when her new husband starts groping her and wanting to have sex. In a panic, she reaches over to the wedding cake on the nightstand, grabs the cake knife and kills him.We then skip to sometime later and are introduced to Tracy (Dan Moreton) and his trio of friends. They all act like refugees from THE MAN SHOW. Tracy is recently broken up with his girlfriend and soon hooks up with Madeline (Renee Madison Cole), who he meets while golfing on the beach. They start dating and she eventually moves in with him when she's loses her apartment. Actually, her landlady finds out that she has no record of credit or any references-and Madeline kills her. As time goes by she becomes much more bossy and wants to control Tracy. Of course, she also hates his friends, who represent everything that she hates in a man. Tracy buckles in, until the end, when he finds out that she's really a killer. But by this time she has killed about everybody close to him with her cake knife. Oh, she also dresses up in her blood-stained wedding gown before she kills someone. Some of the dialogue and scenes are truly hilarious, such as when one of Tracy's friends introduces him to a girl who over-enthusiastically licks a popsicle in preparation for some late-night activities. Or when the same friend (Joe Sperando) says to the crazy Madeline, 'I've met some psychotic women in my time but you take the cake!'Dan Moreton does a convincing job as Tracy, the 'everyman' sort of character that I'm sure most guys can relate to. The star of the movie is definitely Renee Madison Cole as The Bride, who can instantly flip-flop from the 'good girl' to the killer bride. She reminded me of a psychotic Bonnie Hunt. Great performance. And, as I said, this is the best movie yet by Tri-Troad Productions. Well-written, well-produced, well-cast. If you're a fan of independent productions this is a must-see.Directed by Tyler Burk. For more info go to www.tritoadfilms.com
