This movie got kinda lost in the shuffle for many people back in the early 80's, then later on during its big box video days (ya gotta love those huge old display boxes). That's a real shame 'cause the film is very cool in everyway and very well done by director Ulli Lommel. Lommel's films have always been awesome to me and the poor guy never got much credit that I've seen. Anchor Bay Entertainment did have the good sense to release this and his equally cool The Devonsville Terror on DVD, so at least somebody out there realized his films are worth the trouble. I hope more people can check his stuff out. This film is mostly a supernatural horror film dealing with a possessed mirror, but it does seem to have the feel of a slasher film at times. I know that premise sounds kinda dumb, but this movie does work and is good. There are some truly nasty scenes and the plot's weirdness will keep you glued. The beginning is sadistic as hell without a drop of blood and sets the tone for the rest of the film. The music strongly adds to the creepiness of this tale. That mirror causes some pretty interesting mishaps, the best one has to be the scene at the beach where the guy gets knifed through the skull, point jutting through his mouth. His girlfriend sticks her head in the car to see why he's taking so long and the car door slams her into him, face 1st, stabbing her also, locking them in a lover's kiss forever. Too fuckin' much! Their friends leave, thinking they're just making out and don't wanna wait, hahahahahaa, damn. That's only one example of this film's fun. Of interest is also poor little mute Willy, who was once abused and.... well wouldn't be fair to tell, now would it? Trust me, this flick is worth owning.
