Soon after the events of the feature film (1992) starring Kristy Swanson in the title role, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and her mother move to Sunnydale for a new beginning. But it's not coincidence they are moving there, for the town sits on the Hellmouth. The "Master", this nosteratu-like vampire, wants to return to the world and needs blood sacrifices, which he uses another vampire (Brian Thompson of STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE) to procure. We're introduced to the cast of characters--Zander, who has a crush on Buffy from the get-go, the nerdy Willow and the stuck up Cordelia. And then there's Giles, the new librarian who is also her new Watcher. Buffy tries out for the cheerleading team and it seems that there's a witch in the school and they have to find out who it is. Things begin to heat up between Buffy and the mysterious Angel, and she discovers he's a vampire--only a good one. Sunnydale is built over The Hellmouth, which attracts vampires and demons, so this will keep Buffy and company busy the next seven years. The primary villain is "The Master", a bald-batlike vampire. One episode has Giles uncovering a prophecy that The Master will, in fact, kill Buffy. Another episode has a group of high schoolers being possessed by the spirit of a hyena in "The Pack". Other episodes involve weird nightmares and an evil ventriloquist dummy.
While this first season (12 episodes) of BUFFY was interesting to rewatch, it is the weakest of the series
