This is a really strange psychological thriller, scripted by Robert Bloch (PSYCHO). A young woman named Jane (Glynnis Johns) goes for help after her car breaks down and ends up being kept prisoner by a strange, threatening doctor who resides there. There is also a group of odd people who are also in the house - and only one of them she trusts, an old, fatherly man named Paul (Dan O'Herlihy (HALLOWEEN 3)). But he may not be exactly what he seems. As the movie progresses Jane becomes more threatened by the sinister Dr. Caligari, until she finds herself in this surreal nightmare world in which may end up killing herself to finally escape. As a viewer I had a sense of what was really going on and the ending is very clever, though the majority of the movie is not a pleasant experience, which I suppose is also the point of it all.
