This CATWOMAN, as with the Michelle Pfeiffer version in BATMAN RETURNS, has little to do with the comic book villain. The character who gains the superpowers is a meek graphic artist by the name of Patience Phillips. One night, when she's delivering an assignment to her boss, she accidently overhears something she isn't supposed to-and she ends up dead, washed up on the shore. Then all these cats appear, led by this Egyptian cat-and life is breathed into her. During the following days she exhibits all these cat behaviors-and her personality flip-flops between that of Patience and that of Catwoman. There's also a side-story involving her and this police detective. He's dating Patience and is after Catwoman, who is being framed for murders across the city.Sharon Stone is cast as the villain, for a change, and it works. The weird thing about the CATWOMAN movie is that it kept on reminding me of the first CROW movie. The character in THE CROW is killed unjustly and is brought back to life by a crow so that he can have his revenge. In CATWOMAN she's brought back by cats instead. Also, actor Michael Massee portrayed one of the thugs who killed Brandon Lee-and here he plays one of the thugs who kills Halley Barre. Weird coincidence.Or not?CATWOMAN is much better than I thought it would be-and, in fact, I enjoyed it much more than SPIDERMAN 2. Plus, Barre is hot in that cat costume!
