A reporter named Tucker Burns is only able to get a job at the city's tabloid paper, The Daily Chronicle, which turns out to actually be reporting the truth in its stories about aliens and monsters. His co-workers include Grace Hall (Rena Sofer) and Wes Freewald (Reno Wilson). Donald Stern (Jon Polito) is the editor-in-chief of the publication. Oh, and there's the technical support guy who lives in the basement of the building--this is the Pig Man (Curtis Armstrong).
For the most part the stories are played for laughs, though there are some serious ones.
A guy who vanished in the Bermuda Triangle for seven years returns saying he was on a desert island but it turns out he was living with the Atlanteans--and one of them wants him back there. Then, an old folks home where the doctor is switching the minds of rich paying clients with younger individuals. A dragon in China Town that's actually another type of creature altogether. There's also a relationship established between Tucker and a woman reporter from a "real"l newspaper. Grace is haunted by her alien abduction but has some relation in regard to the blue reptilian aliens that had experimented on her. Chief Donald Stern also seems to be more than human since he looks exactly like he did in a 1980 photograph. The series ends with Grace going back in time to the 1940's with the love of her life and police breaking into the newspaper and saying they are closing it down. So while it wrapped up the tale for one of the main characters it left it wide open for the rest of the series. I think this came out around the same time as SPECIAL UNIT 2 and has a similar feel to it.
