Next to the first PLANET OF THE APES movie this is my favorite of the series. Caesar, the grown-up child of a time-travelling Zira and Cornelius is sought after by the government, as his ability to speak and reason is looked upon as a direct threat to mankind. After his friend Armando (Ricardo Montalban) is killed, he hides amongst the apes being trained in one of the conditioning centers, where they are taught to obey commands or suffer the consequences. He witnesses all of mankind's cruelty and starts to influence his fellow primates to disobeying their human masters. In a twist of fate, Caesar is purchased by Governor Breck (Don Murray), who truly hates the apes-and he's tortured into revealing that he is indeed the speaking ape that was conceived thousands of years in Earth's future. Breck's assistant, an African-American named MacDonald, helps Caesar fake his death-and in doing so allows the apes in San Diego to revolt, beginning the "Planet of the Apes".
