Jose Prendes' second feature, CORPSES ARE FOREVER is unique and impressive, like a cross between ANGEL HEART and DAWN OF THE DEAD with a good dose of weirdness thrown in. Shot in a mixture of 35mm color and black and white film, it's about a secret agent who must relive someone else's life in order to figure out why the gates to hell have opened and allowed the dead to walk the earth. There's also an all-star cast, including Brinke Stevens, Don Calfa (RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD), Debbie Rochon (BLEED, THE BOG PEOPLE), and Felissa Rose (SLEEPAWAY CAMP). Richard Lynch (INVASION USA, ALLIGATOR 2) is absolutely great as the army commander. The movie starts off with the black and white sequence, with director/star Prendes, looking very much like Dario Argento and speaking in a English accent, trying to find the person who kidnapped his four-year-old son. He encounters some strange characters, portrayed by Conrad Brooks and Linnea Quigley. Then, he wakes up in color, and there are zombies walking all about him. After making his way through a warehouse of the undead, he eventually gets taken to what seems to be a government base and told what's going on. But will he be able to uncover the truth and stop the end of the world? I think this is the best zombie/spy thriller I've ever seen.
