Creepy Crawlers (2002)
Movie Review by The Undertaker
02.05.03

Creepy Crawlers (2002) CC surprised me rather nicely. I figured it would suck hard due to the pg-13 rating and the subject matter, but it overachieved on just about all levels. This film has a lot in common with 1987's The Nest of which I am a fan, besides, can you have enough killer cockroach flicks? Roaches make for nasty subject matter on film or your kitchen floor and the ones in this movie are very disgusting indeed. The fuckers end up on an island off the coast of Maine after floating inside a body thrown off some raggedy ass ship. They like meat and like to use a nice warm body to incubate inside, growing at an alarming rate. These things soon over run the tiny island and eat a few of it's choice inhabitants. The new guy in town, the only decent looking chick on the island, and the remaining local yokels must stay one step ahead or check into the worst kind of roach motel for eternity. The bug scenes all look awesome and there are several really gross moments in CC. I don't know what it is, but seeing flesh-eating bugs popping from stomachs and crawling down throats make me gag. That shit is nasty! There's plenty of that here folks, the scene of the sheriff puking up a mix of blood and bugs shortly after the queen bug crawls down into his mouth is a good gagger. Things get worse as some of the insects take to the skies forming a lethal swarm out for food. I was amazed at how good the computer FX were here and this film is almost as good as The Nest or Mimic. Don't let the silly title fool you, this movie has bite and creeps aplenty.
