Cursed makes for a pretty good werewolf flick, though it did try for as much 'hipness' as possible. Thinking back, I'm wondering if it was better than I expected (since it was written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Wes Craven) or has it been just so long since I even saw a werewolf film in an actual theatre? I think the last wolfy film I saw at the movies was American Werewolf in Paris and Bad Moon before, Bad Moon being way better in my book, so as you can see it's been awhile. I liked Cursed better than Paris and less than Bad Moon, & way, way less than Ginger Snaps. This movie was very predictable (big surprise) and you pretty much knew who and what was what 20 minutes in. There were a few surprises by the end to help, but all in all, nothing all that cool here except one very sexy looking Christina Ricci; the best thing about Cursed if you ask me. The FX did impress very much though, all except that blonde bitch-wolf change scene which looked like pure digital shit on a Commodore 64. Everything else though looked sweet to me, especially Ms. Ricci's body; yeah, the creatures were damn good too. I just wish it had more to the movie. I still have yet to see that 'perfect' werewolf film, Cursed is way far from perfect, but it's fun and simple & a decent entry in bone-dry sub-genre.
