This is a decent "epic", based on the Norse myth/stories of the "Ring of the Nibelungs". As a child, Siegfried barely escapes his overthrown kingdom with his life, to be raised by a kindly blacksmith (Max Von Sydow). Then, one night he sees a meteor fall into the nearby forest-and goes to investigate. It's here he meets up with Brumhilde, the "Queen of Iceland" and they fight. He wins the battle and this impresses her, as no man has been able to defeat her in battle. They spend the night together and she goes back to her own country, waiting for Siegfriend to eventually follow and be her king.
Then a lot happens to distract him. He befriends the king of the nearby city and goes to defeat a monstrous dragon which is terrorizing the countryside. He kills the creature and bathes in its blood, which makes him invincible (like Achilles, though, he also has a small spot on his body where he can be injured). Also, the vast treasure that the dragon was guarding comes with a curse, though he seems not to care. Then the king's sister puts a spell on him so that he forgets Brumhilde and falls in love with her.
This sort of reminded me of those 60's/70's Italian Hercules and Goliath movies, with a much bigger budget.
