When this series first aired in the early 90's I thought it was pretty cool, having not seen an episode of the original show in a long while. Ben Cross is decent enough as the villainous/sympathetic vampire Barnabas Collins, Barbara Steele is creepy as his ally, and the vampire makeup/teeth are effective. In a more recent viewing, however, the show doesn't hold up nearly as well. What ruins a lot of the suspense/suspension of disbelief is all the "day for night" shooting (which never looks right) and a one-dimensional, vacuous Victoria Winters (Joanna Going). Now that the old series is on DVD there's not much reason to see these thirteen episodes.
