This is one of the first killer wasp movies I recall seeing, but it's just a substitute for your typical 'killer bee' story. This one takes place in Mexico, involving some previously unknown species of wasp that's being transported by a secret government agency. The swarm killings are acceptable and there is good chemistry between the male and female leads. But why, oh why, do the producers of these 'killer animal' movies think they have to follow the JAWS formula, with the animal attacks always happening during a town festival, which has been warned over and over again that's it not a good idea to have a party.What I thought particularly weird was that the wasps carry a cure for cancer. Only one in a hundred people survive their attack or something like that (I think I might have dozed off for a minute there)-and the person that does carries the antibodies to prevent disease-all disease including cancer. When the female lead is attacked and survives-she's the carrier. But it's clear that there's no way she's going to be a guinea pig-and therefore deprives the world of a cancer cure. Very strange message there....
