Stan (Brad Dourif) is an odd, scarred man who owns a crematorium in a small town. He also kills people he doesn't like. We see him kidnap and run over the head of a woman who is too pushy in a parking lot and later bash in the head of a snotty teenaged girl, Lindsey, who calls him a fag.
At the nearby high school a seventeen-year-old goth kid named Jarod is being harassed by David, a bully who thinks he has something to do with the disappearance of his girlfriend Lindsey. She had played a mean practical joke on him earlier in the week. Not only are things going bad at school-- he lives in a crappy trailer, his mother is an alcoholic and dating an asshole. She tells him he has to get a job after school and he finds his way to the crematorium because dead things fascinate him. Stan is reluctant to hire him but he works for free--and eventually the two begin to bond. Things eventually spiral out of control when a local detective begins to piece things together. Stan kidnaps and kills David to help Jarod and Jarod kills his mother's lame boyfriend by bashing him in the head with a bowling bowl.
This movie offers an interesting story and characters, solid acting and enough gore to keep things moving. It reminded me of the Stephen King short story APT PUPIL. Recommended.
