This is a fun movie, hearkening back to those 70's Apocalyptic films like OMEGA MAN or THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR. Vincent Spano portrays Ryan Cawdor, who travels the post-nuclear earth with his half-mutant girlfriend, a weapons specialist and a brash youth who also happens to be a mutant. In a flashback we're shown Cawdor's early years, when his older brother Harvey killed his father and brother-and ended up putting out one of his eyes before he was able to escape. As chance has it he ends up back in his homeland and has to confront a past that's been haunting him for twenty-years. We see that Harvey is quite insane and Harvey's wife is incredibly evil (and was his step-mother!). Tracy Lords is great as sadistic Baroness. Cawdor and his band are captured and put in the dungeon, only to be the prey on one of Harvey's hunts the next day. They eventually escape with the help of nearby townsfolk and Cawdor leaves with making everything right. For some reason this reminded me a bit of Roddenberry's STRANGE NEW WORLD/GENESIS II and that LOGAN'S RUN television series and DEATHLANDS would probably make a fun series on the Sci-Fi Channel. Maybe they'll be making more movie versions of these books (DEATHLANDS series written by James Axler).
