A group of four guys (Burt Reynolds, Ronny Cox, Ned Beatty, Jon Voight) decide to take a canoe trip down a Southern River before it gets turned into a lake-and don't quite have the vacation they envisioned.First, two are held at gun point by the inbred locals and the one is forced to watch while the other guy is made to act like a squealing pig and is then raped. The Burt Reynolds character kills this guy with an arrow-and they all agree to bury the body and not tell anybody about this.On the way back, though, the Cox character falls overboard and the canoes get flipped in the rapids. Reynolds badly breaks his leg (with the bone sticking out) and insists they guy was shot before he fell into the water. The others believe him.Well, the Voight character manages to kill who they think is shooting after them-but when they get back to civilization the whole question arises as to if he killed the right guy or not.If you haven't seen this movie rent it. It's up there with THE HILLS HAVE EYES, JUST BEFORE DAWN and even WRONG TURN. And entirely too plausible.
