This horror movie produced by M. Knight Shamalayan has a very simple premise.
Before the devil gets the evil souls he likes to torment them when they are alive and will take human form to do this. In this case it happens to be a group of five individuals trapped in an elevator. Everyone on board seems to be normal but they've all done something evil in their lives, something for which they'd go to hell. The investigating detective discovers this all began with a man committing suicide by jumping from one of the building's top floors. The detective is still recovering from the hit-and-run deaths of his wife and son from years before, an incident that ties into what's going on with this particular case...
And there are plenty of other killings, too, such as the demise of the elevator repair man and the security guards. Although half the movie takes place in the lift it's definitely not boring. I can see this as a good direct-to-video franchise since it could have a different, unrelated cast with each new movie.
