I was entertained by THE DEVIL ANT, primarily because it's so earnest and goofy at the same time. It's like watching a home movie made by a crazy relative. The director also plays several of the roles, sort of like Sellers in DR. STRANGELOVE, in a strange way, one of these being a mad scientist, who in addition to drinking vodka and eating sardines, dumps a can full of nuclear toxin into the nearby river, thereby causing the creation of the said DEVIL ANT. The Devil Ant also sounds suspiciously like Nelson as well. A detective, also portrayed by "The Rock", follows the creature to a local horror convention, thus having cameos by Conrad Brooks, Tom Savini, Roger Corman and Forrest J. Ackerman, who seems to have a good sense of humor about being cornered by this production.
David "The Rock" Nelson has far more enthusiasm then actual filmmaking skills, but that's part of the deal, I suppose.
On top of it, I got my own personal message from the director on my review DVD, which is perhaps as long as the movie!
