This most recent adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson novella, starring John Hannah in dual roles, is a good one. Instead of opting for two radically different appearances between the two personas the filmmakers opted for making them look virtually the same. That is, except for the eyes. Jeckyll has green eyes while Hyde has dark black ones. And, of course, their behavior is the complete opposite of each other. I also liked that because of this everyone quickly figures out that Hyde and Jeckyll are the same person, which complicates things a great deal for our protagonist(s).There are a few gory scenes, such as when he wakes up and finds that he operated on a young assistant, another where he bashes in a man's skull with his cane and another when he slits a woman's throat. This is up there with the versions featuring Spencer Tracy & Jack Palance.
