This is a good finale to the Dracula story began in DRACULA 2000. Rutger Hauer portrays the Count this time, who more or less has a death wish, as it seems he is unable to die and doesn't want to live. Reprising their roles from the 2nd film, ASCENSION are Jason Scott Lee as an ex-priest and Jason London as is his sidekick. They track Drac him back to his 'homeland', the Carpathian Mountains where the vampire lore is still very strong, in order to rescue London's love interest, a woman who was turned into a vampire in the previous movie. The Dracula portrayed here is much more decadent and he has these vampire orgies in his castle. He also has a group of humans who supply him and his brood human food. Hauer is great, as usual, though I wish he was given more screen time. This is the best vampire he's portrayed (better than SALEM'S LOT and BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER). The casting of Jason Scott Lee as the priest is strange, but it works and goes against stereotype. The movie ends in such a way as to both complete the trilogy and sets up the possibility of continuing the story with a different pivotal character. Recommended.Directed and co-written by Patrick Lussier.Read the interview with Patrick in the interviews section of Buried.com.
