Based on the series of novels by Jim Butcher, this series is about a reluctant sorcerer, Harry Dresden, who has inherited his talents from his long dead mother. He's a film-noir detective who uses his abilities to help people and also helps the local police department.
Harry was raised by his father, a fifth-rate magician who could barely keep them afloat - and when he died he went to live with his rich uncle (brother of his mother). It's not until later he learns that the uncle was responsible for his father's death - and he kills him with black magic, which is a big 'no no', as it ostracizes him from the supernatural community. There's an episode with werewolves, another with doppelgangers and vampires. While there is good chemistry between Dresden (Paul Blackthorne) and the female police detective, Murphy (Valerie Cruz) my favorite character is 'Bob' (Terrance Mann from CRITTERS 1 & 2), a sorcerer whose spirit is bound to his rune-covered skull. THE DRESDEN FILES covers the same area as CONSTANTINE but he's a much more likable character.
