Wanna see a movie that was a big influence on blockbuster Independence Day? Here it is, same basic plot. Ray Harryhausen's FX look cool and the saucers and spacemen do a lot of damage when on screen. How can you not love a movie in which a flying saucer veers off course and cuts the Washington Monument in two? The spacemen wear some goofy looking suits and helmets to shield there raggedy-ass, old bodies while attacking our poor planet. Their death rays do totally destroy whatever they hit though, so don't laugh in front of their faces. You gotta love these sci-fi films of the fifties. We get warned, but miss the message. We can't seem to figure a way out of invasion until a scientist rigs up a beam machine that turns a flying saucer into an out of control spinning Frisbee that crashes down on whatever may be in the way. The voice-over at the beginning and the music will bring a grin to your face. It's a fun movie and even though slow in parts I think most people will enjoy it. Earth invaded by a race of beings so old they live in armor which makes them look like walking deodorant stick containers. Hey, at least that drove cool saucers. The scene where the strange revolving disco light inside the ship hypnotizes a cop and we see the skull peel away to show the brain made a nice touch. Watch this classic to see why sci-fi was king in the 50's.
