Based on the life of infamous cannibal/killer Ed Gein, this is a surprisingly subdued movie, which chooses to hint at rather than outrightly show what the psycho is up to. And, for the most part, this works quite well.A large part of this is due to Steve Railsback's performance as Ed--one of the best performances I've ever seen by this actor. The biggest problem the movie is against is that this story has been told so many other times--in PSYCHO, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, et cetera--. DERANGED, also dealing with Ed's story, is a better movie.
