The fun loving apes come back to our time from the future to scare the shit out of the government in the 3rd Apes movie. Talking monkeys that are smarter than 90% of humanity do not make for happy world leadership it seems and Zira and Cornelius are soon on the run. There are some truly funny moments here with the apes talking to various Dr.'s and committees that I thought made the movie. I always felt like this movie really reflected how our world would handle such a situation, unfortunately. Fear, prejudice, and general idiocy I'm sure would take the place of good judgment if such creatures did exist. Hell, we can't even get along with each other, much less intelligent animals. Good thing the ape couple meets a few decent folks on their journey, as the need the help once Zira's pregnancy is revealed. The old switcharoo in which Mr. Rourke takes in the infant chimp for safekeeping is a sad and touching moment. The end of this movie really is a tearjerker. Seeing our two favorite monkeys killed, leaving their child an orphan, always kills me. I hated to see it the 1st time I saw the movie and it still bothers me each viewing. This film's has less action than the others, but it makes up for it in social commentary and thoughtfulness. Great work by Roddy McDowell and Kim Hunter one more time.Who can forget that last shot?
