EUREKA is a clever, engaging show, more serious than humorous, and more unpredictable than you usual series on the Sci-Fi Channel. In the pilot, U.S. Marshall Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson), while transporting his delinquent fifteen-year-old daughter back home, crashes his car in the town of Eureka. Eureka is a strange town, inhabited by brilliant scientists, most of them working on top-secret government projects at a nearby facility. These experiments range from cloning to time travel, to the investigation of a strange, amorphous object that may date from the beginning of the universe. Carter ends up being stationed there by the government, as the town's sheriff. His assistant, Jo (Erica Cerra), a small, extremely strong woman is a bit resentful of his placement at first, but they eventually resolve their differences. The potential love interest is Allison Blake (Salli Richardson), who has an autistic son and actor Matt Frewer is utterly hilarious as
Jim Taggert, who is sort of an explorer/hunter.
The 12 episode run begins with a time-travel story and also ends with one, in which the sheriff must transport his mind back in time to prevent a catastrophe that will destroy the world. But in doing so he may be giving up his happiness, as this may change how his future life progresses. And I'm sure, because he remembers three years of this 'alternate' life - it will pose some problems in the second season.
EUREKA is definitely worth your time, a cool series with a great ensemble cast.
