This is one of the better Exorcism movies I've seen, based on the true story of a real Exorcism that went awry in the mid 1970's. The beginning of the movie starts with the end of Emily (Jennifer Carpenter). The priest who did the exorcism, Father Moore (Tom Wilkinson), is taken away by the sheriff and is soon on trial for the negligent homicide of the young woman. The majority of the movie takes place within the courtroom and the story is told via flashbacks. Sometimes the viewer is even shown two different versions of what may have happened, the supernatural and the explainable. The special effects of the demons/evil spirits are creepy, very similar to those seen in the movie DEAD BIRDS. The possession and exorcism scenes are also a bit different than I expected. Recommended.
