This prequel to the original turned out to be alot better than I thought it would be. I really wasn't sure what to expect.. but I figured it would be watered down quite a bit for today's youth. Boy was I wrong. The film starts off with some gruesome imagery to set the pace. The story follows Father Merrin on a trip to Africa. He has lost his faith and has turned to archaeology to fill the void in his life. What he encounters on his trip is pure evil, but that is not even enough to renew his faith. This is a pretty dark and bloody film and is faithful to the original as far as quality of sickness goes. Evil is afoot, but will Father Merrin be able to handle it? Handle it he did. Great film... must see for horror fans.
