This is an interesting six episode UK horror series with a very cool "mythology". Ever since World War I the Ascension points--where spirits go to the other realm--have been closing, so there are only a few left. This means that the ghosts are stuck on the Earth. And as time goes by they become nastier and more resentful. Now, they are actually taking physical form by drinking blood and eating human flesh. These Fades develop these gross coccoons and come out of them, reborn. And they are immortal. People with special powers, called Angelics, have been dealing with the ghosts but these Fades are a new thing--and there's a prophecy of the end of the world.
Seventeen year old Paul discovers that he's a powerful Angelic (he even develops Angel wings) and begins having these visions of the end of the world. Neil, an embittered Angelic tells him he has to abandon his normal life but Paul doesn't want to go underground and fight these creatures. Paul also has a new girlfriend, Jay, and the father of his best friend is the town's Detective, who is investigating all the vicious murders by the Fades. As things culminate and more former ghosts are reborn, the town is evacuated and it's a showdown between these immortals and Paul.
This show is relentless and doesn't waste any time with padding anything out. The writing is tight and everything that happens has a purpose to propel the story. It also has one of the best intro/title sequences I've seen, extremely creepy which sets the tone for the show. Hopefully this has been picked up for a second series, as it ends on an unexpected note. Highly recommended.
